Factors Affecting the Service Life of Lithium-ion Batteries

The main factors affecting cycle life include charge/discharge rate, depth of discharge (DoD), operating temperature, cutoff voltage settings and the balancing capability of the BMS.

High temperatures accelerate SEI growth and electrolyte decomposition, while low temperatures can cause lithium plating. Long-term storage at full charge and over-discharge also shorten life significantly. In engineering practice, keeping DoD within 80%, avoiding prolonged high-temperature operation and pairing with an active-balancing BMS can effectively extend battery pack life. With intelligent BMS and thermal management design, Jinyao Sheng New Energy storage products achieve over 6,000 cycles under standard operating conditions.
